Our IRON KID!

Christian raced his first triathlon today. (I'm pretty sure that I will go to my deathbed never having uttered those words about myself!)

His raced in the senior age group of 11-14 year olds (based on the age you turn in 2007.) The kids swam 200 yards (8 laps!) biked 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) and ran 2 kilometers (1.2 miles).

He did AWESOME!

The swim was definitely the hardest part, but he persevered through it, jumped out of the pool and took off for his bike.

All of his equipment was previously set up in a staging area. Each athlete had to transition between events without any help. This meant taking off his swim cap and goggles and putting on his shirt, shoes and helmet and getting his bike. Then it was 5 laps of the bike course and he really made up for lost time!

After the bike course, it was back to the staging area to drop the bike and helmet and hit the running trail.

And off he went! The course went around the park and finished on the football field underneath three enormous blow up arches that said "Every finisher a winner." He had a blast! The official times haven't been posted, but I will update when they are available. And of course, what is at the finish line when an event is hosted by Sara Lee Iron Kids Bread?

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches, of course!
Coleman and Carolyn were so cute! They made signs and cheered him on through each event. How can you not be a winner with fans like that?

Did I mention that it was a hundred degrees? We all had a lot of fun, but boy, were we glad to get home and take a shower!
