Westward Ho

Christian and some of his fraternity brothers went to California for spring break.

The Pacific Ocean (Laguna Beach)
Restaurants were take-out only
A day hike (MASH film site!)
 Camping at Joshua Tree
On the way home they detoured to the Grand Canyon!
They drove through the night and arrived about an hour before sunrise
I am more than a little jealous!

While in California, I went looking for Sheldon.
I didn't find him, but I did find "my" building.

La Brea Tar Pits and the Page Museum

Since I went to Hollywood for Amy, she (and Kim!) had to go to the La Brea Tar Pits for me!
It was facinating!  There have been hundreds of thousands of fossils pulled out of the tar pits since they were first excavated in 1913.
This is Zed, the most complete Mammoth found. (Poor Zed had arthritis!)
Kim is as tall as a polar bear. (And Brooke is as tall as a brown bear!)
I am as tall as a grizzly bear.
Amy is as tall as the short nosed bears found in the pits.
This is a case filled with 500 Golden Eagle leg bones-the Golden Eagle is one of 140 different species of birds that have been found in the pits.  And one of over 600 different different species of animals found in the pit-including camels! (Second camel sighting of the weekend.)
The animals waded into the pits to get to water and got stuck and died of starvation or from predators looking for an easy meal.  The predators then got stuck themselves,
which led to a big jumbled mess of bones in the pits over tens of thousands of years.
Pit 91 is temporarily closed but is still an active dig site.
This is the lake pit, which was quarried for asphalt and has now filled with water.  Methane gas bubbles up through the pit and makes the asphalt seem to boil.
What Kim and Amy just heard from this post:
"blah blah blah blah blah!"
Although Amy did say it wasn't as horrible as she expected. ;)

Madame Tussaud's

Our tour tickets included a visit to Madame Tussaud's.
Kim, of course, had to get a picture with Lucy.
 Fist bump with Shrek
 Amy and the Biebs.
Kim kvetches with Julia
I kissed Peter's camel (and I liked it.)
(My first of two camel sightings this weekend!)

Marilyn and I srike a pose
The law caught up with Kim, Butch and the Kid.
Then Kim got a little too close to Hannibal!
Amy, Eddie and I headed to Beverly Hills
 Yo, Amy!
Robin loved what I had to say
Oh, Tiger... you were so much better before you were bad!
Kim got some air with Tony
 Amy played defense on Kobe
while Tony Stark and I saved the world
Needless to say, we had a LOT of fun at the wax museum!

Hollywood

Our days started early!  It may have only been 5:00 AM in California, but it still felt like Georgia 8:00!
After a great breakfast at Corfu, we hit the Metro to head to Hollywood.
In spite of a little TAP trouble, we made it to Hollywood and Highland where we promptly joined a parade!
and of course visited Grauman's Chinese Theatre.
We decided to take a tour of the stars' homes.  I took photos, but have no idea anymore of which was whose! Kim in front of Ryan Seacrest's house? maybe?
I do remember that this gate was at Elvis' home when he briefly lived there.
And this was one was the Godfather's... Brando? Pacino?  I can't remember!
We stopped at a lookout over Los Angeles.  A photo in front of the Hollywood sign was a must.
(Don't you love our hats?  It was hot and we were in an open topped van!)

I mom, therefore I blog.
