Tallulah Gorge

Today we went to Tallulah Gorge. It is in the North Georgia mountains and it was SPECTACULAR. The gorge is the oldest canyon in the United States and at 1100 feet deep, it is the second deepest (behind only the Grand Canyon.) We went over a suspension bridge 80 feet above the bottom of the canyon. (And if you RUN over it, it bounces even more!)
Although we didn't go down to the bottom of the canyon, we did hike 2 1/2 miles around the rim on both sides. Carolyn did awesome and walked the entire way on her own two feet. Including the 340 steps down and the 390 steps back UP!
The fall foliage was beautiful.
And the kids made enough noise that we didn't even have to worry about bears. Not that we were. I didn't even think about it. I'm just sayin'.
There was one calamity to mar the day. See the walking sticks the boys are carrying? We started with two. But left with only one. One stick took an unfortunate trip through the guard rail and down the cliff. Luckily the boy was not attached to it when it went. However, tears ensued.
It was a near perfect day.
