Vogel State Park

On the advice of Wendy at Simple Gifts we went to Vogel State Park on Mother's Day. What a beautiful place! Although we only hiked around the lake, this park has something for everyone-a beach, a miniature golf course, cabins and of course, the all-important (for my boys anyway!) stream to ford.
We've had a very mild spring. There have been many days where it's chilly enough for a jacket in the morning. Not the boys of course; they would rather freeze to death than admit to needing long sleeves.  Look at those pasty white legs...

We took Gumbo along for the first time. He had a blast. He's such a good dog and wants nothing more than to be with us at all times.
After we hiked around the lake, we went into the park office and found out that this view of the mountains from the lake dam is one of the most popular photo spots in Georgia.
The kids played on the beach. Because we needed some sand on the floor of my van to go with the dog hair that Gumbo shed. They're helpful that way.
And it wouldn't be a REAL hiking trip if the boys didn't find some water to cross and and get their shoes wet!
Georgia has so many beautiful state parks! We are lucky to live within an hour or so drive of so many of them.
