High Brow

Yesterday was a rainy afternoon (for about the 10th day in a row) so we decided to drive into Atlanta to the High Museum of Art to see the First Emperor exhibit.
Seriously. FANTASTIC.    This exhibit is of China's Terracotta Warriors.  First discovered in 1974, they are considered one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century.
There was absolutely no photography allowed in the exhibit but here are some photos I found on the internet.

Amazing to think that the statues we were viewing were over 2000 years old!  It was one of the best exhibits we've ever visited.

Even with timed tickets, the line was very long, although it moved quickly.
The exhibit contained many relics including 15 life-sized statues.  The soldiers are all 6 to 6 1/2 feet tall (which is obviously a little larger than life size for that day and age!)  The excavation is ongoing, but currently 1000 statues have been uncovered and it is estimated that there are over 8000 total.  Can you imagine?

We enjoyed the rest of the museum while waiting for our turn to go through the exhibit.
Sometimes the OUTside of the museum seemed more interesting than the INside!
There was a Make It Take It art program in conjunction with the Medieval Treasures Exhibit that is currently at the museum.  The kids made swords and scabbards.  Such fun!
The High has a great Kids' Area with lots of hands on activities.  Coleman enjoyed the puppets.
The Terracotta Warriors are at the High through April.  If you can go, you absolutely should!  Our family unanimously agreed that it was two thumbs up!
