The Muppets Take Atlanta

Today we went to the Atlanta History Museum with our friends Ms. Dawn, Hannah and Abbey to see the MUPPETS!
Jim Henson's Fantastic World is a traveling exhibit that includes some of Henson's original artwork, drawings, cartoons and storyboards.  We also saw movie props and some real, honest- to-goodness MUPPETS! Kermit the Frog was there as well as Bert and Ernie and Rowlf.  I didn't realize it, but the Muppets debuted in advertising.  There were a lot of TV clips of commercials and also from The Muppet Show.  The kids had a lot of fun, but I think the moms enjoyed it more than the kids.  We were a little sentimental. And um, WE knew who the Muppets are!  (We had to watch A Muppet Christmas Carol last night to prep for our outing.)
And of course, at the end there was a puppet theatre!
O
Love the witch's cackle at the end.

We LOVED the Atlanta History Center!  There were exhibits about the Civil War (of course!) the Creek and Cherokee Indians, and a Soda Shoppe where we ate lunch.
There was also a whole wing devoted to the 1996 Olympics which were held in Atlanta.  This was definitely the kids' favorite part.  There was a sports lab where you could attempt a high jump, ride in a bike race, or crew.  There was also a track complete with a Medal Stand.  And lots and lots of Olympic Memorabilia.   We didn't even make it outside to the plantation house or the farm as it was so cold. We will definitely make a return visit!

If you are in Atlanta and want to see the Muppet Exhibit, you'd better hurry.  It's only there until January 19.

I think we're going to have to do this in January! Sounds like a ton of fun, but Griffin wants to skip the muppet part as he truly doesn't like them!! I can honestly say i think he hates Gonzo!
