No Lacrosse For HOW Long???

We had some excitement this week when Coleman was hit with a shot at lacrosse practice Thursday night.  He went down like a sack of bricks and then threw up.  Neither Jim nor I were there (anniversary dinner) and got a call from his coach.

We debated going to urgent care in case he had cracked a rib, but since Advil seemed to be helping and it was late/he was tired we decided to wait and see.  Friday morning when he was still complaining of his stomach hurting and couldn't eat (a BIG red flag, ha!) I made an appointment with the orthopedist so we could get an Xray. I was still thinking cracked rib.  Fast forward to a CT scan and a diagnosis of a lacerated spleen,  and we headed to the emergency room at Children's Hospital.

Although Coleman was definitely hurting, he was walking and talking and acting fairly normal.  The staff at Children's treated him as a trauma and we were bumped to the front of the line and taken into the code room.  Two doctors, five nurses, a social worker and a chaplain accompanied us.  He was given an IV and the doctor did an ultrasound
and then we were put in a regular ER room while the radiologist read the CT scan we brought and we waited for the surgeon.
(He obviously doesn't feel THAT bad as he is still able to text!)

Since Coleman had a serious (Stage III) splenic laceration, he was admitted to the hospital overnight for monitoring and continued blood work.  Because there was the possibility of surgery, no food. As you can imagine, this was the worst part!
Friday Night Feast-popsicles, apple juice, jello and gatorade!
ET phone home!
It was a LONG night.  I think I slept uninterrupted from midnight to 1:30 and then at 4:30 we gave up and got up.
Luckily, no surgery, but Coleman is restricted from all physical activity for six weeks.  No lacrosse, no PE, no manhunt, no running around the back yard... One of us is going to have to be sedated.
