I was tired of yelling and I was tired of threatening and I was tired of spankings. And I was tired of always being the bad guy. So we started the marble jars. Each kid has a jar. When they do something good they get to put a marble in. When they do something wrong, they take a marble out. When they reach the magic number of marbles (25 for my 11 year old, 20 for my 7 year old and 15 for my 4 year old) they get a treat, usually a book from the book store.

I like this idea. I think maybe I should make a jar for myself for anytime I get mad (or don't get mad) with my husband for something silly. Something tangible is always helpful.
This is a great idea! I will try to remember that when I have my own!
I love this idea -- I think having a visual reminder like this would really work with my 3-year-old. Thanks for sharing!
There is nothing like positive reinforcement. And besides, you get an added bonus: it keeps you from losing your own marbles. (Sorry, couldn't resist!)
This is a great idea. I, too am tired of the threatening and yelling. I'm going to try this with my 3 year old daughter. Thanks for the idea!
Great idea. My daughter's 1st grade classroom has a marble jar but I'd never thought about using the idea at home.
