Out of the Loop

Coleman received an iTunes gift card for his birthday.  We sat down at the computer this morning to find some music for him to download.  This is more difficult than it sounds!!  How do I know what an 8 year old boy would like?  The music he listens to on his MP3 player is music that Jim and I like (screened for appropriateness of course!)
So I start with Snacktime, the new kids CD out by Bare Naked Ladies.  Eh.  Not so interested.  We check out some Kidz Bop...still not his thing.  And then Coleman says, "What about Demi Lovato?"

"Who?"

"Who is that?  I don't even know how to spell it to search for it!"

"You know, she's on Camp Rock."  (um, no.  I didn't know.)

So I did a search for Camp Rock, and sure enough, there is Demi Lovato!  I felt SO OUT OF TOUCH.  So we downloaded a couple of her songs and a couple of other songs from Camp Rock and the Jonas Brothers.  Then Coleman says, "You know, I like the Cheetah Girls, too."

I don't even know where he hears this music!  And then I remember, he was in Louisiana with his dad for a week.  Where apparently, he watched a LOT of Disney Channel.

So after downloading it all and burning a CD for him, I no longer feel so out of touch.  He has listened to his new CD at TOP VOLUME all day and I now know all the words to all the songs.  Even if I didn't know who the people singing them were!
