Today we went to the Decatur Book Festival. It's one of the top ten book festivals in the country and over 250 best selling authors made appearances over the weekend. I REALLY wanted to see Joshilyn Jackson, but she was only there on Saturday.
Decatur is an historic old town with a quaint downtown square where the festival is held.
The kids made bookmarks (of course!)
And looked at booth after booth full of books. Christian and I were in heaven! Although I practiced great restraint.

And they even got their picture taken with Bullseye, the Target dog. (Did you know he had a name? Neither did I.)
We also sat and listened to a storyteller tell a story about Br'er Rabbit. Joel Chandler Harris was from Georgia and lived in Atlanta as an adult. The kids were fascinated.
We had a wonderful time, but it is definitely still August in Georgia. It was VERY hot and we were all happy to get back into the air-conditioning!
Coincidentally, the The Margaret Mitchell House is one of the participating communities for The Big Read and had a booth set up with information and activities.

I wish you had seen Joshilyn Jackson! I thought Gods in Alabama was a great book. (I liked it better than Between, Georgia. I see you've read her new one, too. Did you like it?)
(Also, I saw on the side that you read My Summer of Southern Discomfort. I liked that one a lot. I haven't heard if she has anything else out, but that was a good summer book for me last year.)

You should go check out The Wren's Nest - Joel Chandler Harris' house...it's over on the west side of ATL, can't remember which neighborhood; it's been too long since I've been there. We went there for a school field trip once.
Bullseye is a troubling name for an animal ;)
