Doin' the Happy Dance

Two years ago, when we found out that we were moving back to the South, the first question the boys asked was, "Do they have lacrosse in Georgia?"  My answer was, "I doubt it!"  But I was just as excited as the two three boys were when we found out that, yes!  They do have lacrosse in Georgia!
Of course, then I found out that practice involved a thirty minute drive each way twice a week and that most of the games were an hour to an hour and a half away.  But that was okay.  It was do-able.
And after the first season, we were all accustomed to it.  As a family, we love this sport so much that it was worth the time and effort. And gas.  It has been a lot of fun to watch kids who are new to the sport really learn and progress and grow to love this game as much as we do.
This past spring, the school board in our county FINALLY decided to recognize lacrosse as a varsity sport.  YAY!  We went to the school board meeting prior to the vote to show support (along with about 500 other people!)

And then we found out that the high school that Christian will attend in three years will have a club team this year with the intent of fielding a varsity team in the near future.
So you can imagine my ELATION when I got an email today that there is a youth lacrosse association starting up DOWN THE STREET from my house for next spring.  What will I do with myself if I only have to drive 5 minutes to practice!?!?!?
I can hardly contain myself!

Thanks for your support of lacrosse in Gwinnett Co. I was with the group that pushed for it as a varsity sport. My sons (13 & 16) both play in the Peachtree Ridge area. We (and Collins Hill) will have it as a varsity sport this year. I know Grayson, Mill Creek and Norcross are planning on making it a varsity sport next year. It will be in almost all of the Gwinnett schools within 3 years.
