Our Day

It's been raining for over a week. It stormed all night last night, so when my alarm went off this morning and I realized it was still raining, I decided to take the kids to school so I they could sleep a little later. Imagine my surprise when my neighbor called and told me that school was delayed 90 minutes due to RAIN! (I lived in New Orleans for 6 years... seriously?) Not 10 minutes later, Gwinnett County canceled school completely. Although there is no flooding near us, in the south of the county and in Atlanta there are many road closures and even several deaths.
So, after Coleman and I made a quick trip to the grocery store we spent the rest of the day doing this:
And this:
You don't HAVE to have matching aprons, but it makes it a LOT more fun!
On our list: Brie and Sausage Breakfast Casserole for Bible Study (it came highly recommended!)
Applesauce Muffins-a family favorite
Apple Butter (I've never made this before, but I hope it turns out yummy!)
Chicken Tortilla Soup for dinner ( My favorite recipe from Troye.)

Gman and I did some baking today since it was cold & rainy here too...just boring chocolate chip cookies for us....not in matching aprons, but still fun.

It actually was pretty nasty (I'd know... I was AT SCHOOL when they cancelled it... oh, Gwinnett)and there was no way to get to Parkview... there are some scary pictures of the pavilion at Collins Hill Park, and on AJC there are some pictures of the bus lot in Lilburn, a lot of the buses couldn't get out due to debris, and some were actually overturned due to the rushing water (didn't sound dramatic at all). There are random spots on random roads that are flooded (Dean road had a spot where they actually had to have a cop sitting there so people wouldn't drive through) no school tomorrow either, and this is the first time in around 4 years that Gwinnett has cancelled school this far in advance (last time was the gas days) :)

Wow!! If it rained that much in California, it'd be a state of emergency, everything would be cancelled, and everyone would be joining me on house arrest. Everything would flood and there'd be mudslides everywhere until the entire state was leveled. And we'd be without electric making for a super fun time reading by candlelight. :)
